Author Interview Series: Writers’ Quirks Featuring C.M. Keller

Today I welcome author C. M. Keller to Writers' Quirks.

Thanks for joining us, C.M. What's is your latest project?
Just released Screwing Up Alexandria, book three in the Screwing Up Time series.

Have you ever fallen in love with one of your characters?
My main character is a kind of mish-mash of my three sons, so I love him like a son. However, I do have a soft spot in my heart for his crazy-like-a-fox grandfather.

What is the best place for dreaming up your storylines?
In that magical time between sleeping and waking—dream creativity seems to flow into stories in that space.

What is your favorite snack while writing?
Tea and chocolate, or wasabi peas. Depends on my mood.

How do you feel about pen names?
I like pen names. I’m considering one for my latest book, which is a Southern Gothic as opposed to the YA that I normally write.

What is the most not-true-to-self writing or marketing idea you’ve considered (or done!)?
I’m an introvert’s introvert, but I read about an author who posted vlogs of himself dancing every time he reached a certain sales goal. I considered doing the same…for about two seconds.

How are your books different than the millions of other books?
My novels are a time-traveling blend of humor, action, and romance but told from the perspective of a guy.

What one question has no one asked you about your book/character/writing life that you wish they would?
If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

So, if you weren’t a writer, what would you be?
In college I took a career aptitude test. It said I should be either an engineer or a dancer therapist. Um, okay. I didn’t see a lot of overlap in those skill sets, so I became a writer instead.

Where would you like people to connect with you online?
Twitter: @CMKellerWrites or my website.

Thanks for stopping by, C.M.!

C.M. Keller's book Screwing Up Time is now available.
